Aastha Shah

Research Assistant
  • Conformable Decoders

Aastha is a PhD student at the conformable decoders. She earned her bachelors in Mechanical Engineering at BITS-Pilani, Goa (India) and her masters in Bioengineering at UC Berkeley.
Aastha then pursued a career in R&D at a medical device consultancy (Ximedica) - leading projects in design, experimentation and benchtop validation of extracorporeal fluid circuits,
automated injection pens and RF cauterization devices.

At the conformable decoders, Aastha developed a wearable ultrasound system for the transdermal delivery of small-molecule drugs. The soft interface allows short-exposure, large-area application of sonophoresis for patients and consumers suffering from skin conditions, damaged skin barriers and premature skin aging. Her current work is focused on miniaturization of the device through the exploration of novel materials and transducer geometries for energy-efficient, programmable operation. She envisions this opening avenues for the delivery of drugs across the skin for a variety of applications, such as needle-free insulin injections, or painless tattoos.
